Ocoee River Rafting photos
These are pictures from my whitewater rafting trips down the Ocoee.
This is Dustin Boyd, guiding a group which is about to go over a pretty nasty rapid. I climbed down from the highway to a huge rock so I could snap this pic. Dustin's job is to steer the boat from behind with his paddle so that the boat doesn't go over the rapids in the wrong position.
This is Scott and I swimming during a calm period of the river. It was early summer, so the water was pretty cold, but it felt really good. The water looks pretty nasty because of all the minerals that seep down from the Copper Mine at the top of the river. The minerals in the water make the guides' hair and nails grow faster than normal.
Either this is steam from the river rising up, or it's condensation on my camera. Either way, it's kinda pretty.
This is another lovely shot of the river with the sun reflecting off the surface of the water. The water looks really calm here, but you'll hear the rapids before you see them as you turn a bend in the river.
Another shot of me swimming in the Ocoee. It's not very deep, but its quite fast. 3,000 cubic feet of water per second flow on normal days.
